Welcome to Functional Pilates

We look forward to meeting you and listening to your movement story.

We all have different challenges on our movement journey. Some of you have recently been injured and others have struggled with movement issues throughout life. Some move quite well but need focus on injury prevention and general wellbeing.

Filippa Minnelli

“We listen to you and work together to achieve your personal movement goals. Our goal is to empower you through movement and education.”

- FILIPPA MINNELLI

The first session

We are all at different stages of life and have different requirements. That is why it is important that we spend the first session learning about you. This session is an individual session for 60 minutes.

The frequently asked questions below detail what you can expect at our first meeting. If you have any additional questions please contact us and we will be glad to assist.

We wish to advise that we have a COVID-19 policy in place. Prior to attending your first session in the studio, we request you read and become familiar with this policy.

There are various ways to book this session, either online here or if the session times online are not convenient, then please contact us via email at info@functionalpilates.com.au or phone on 03 9857 6377 and we’ll find a suitable session time.

We’re looking forward to providing you with the help you need.

What to wear and bring

Wear comfortable clothes, socks and a COVID-19 appropriate face mask.

Please bring any relevant medical reports, such as X-ray and MRI reports. There is no need to bring the films.

A referral letter is not required, but if you have letters from other practitioners then please bring these as well.

What to expect in our first meeting

You will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire including your contact details and movement history. Please be aware that all information we gather is protected by our Privacy Policy.

We will then move into the Pilates studio where we can observe you moving. We will review your functional (gait) movements, core, posture and balance. To find out more, read below.

Your assessment

CORE STABILITY & STRENGTH

‘Core stability’ is the body’s inbuilt system to protect the spine. Sometimes it can ‘switch off’ until it is properly retrained.

POSTURE

Unfavourable postural deviations occur in time and without your knowledge. Ironically, time and knowledge are required to unwind the postural clock.

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT

When we train your functional movements, we train them to improve your overall musculoskeletal health.

BALANCE

‘Balance CAN be trained’. This will make a significant difference to helping you maintain your independence, help raising grandchildren, travelling, bike riding, golf and continuing your life’s work.

Not sure if Pilates is for you?

Pilates at Functional Pilates caters for all ages and all abilities. The exercise program is individualised and will be a combination of mat, reformer and other Pilates equipment exercises.

After the first session we will discuss whether you are suited to private sessions or a class of no more than three participants.

After having completed 3 separate conventional rehabilitation programmes, without any resolution to my specific issues, I was blown away by Filippa’s approach. Her breadth of knowledge, experience, attention to detail and her willingness to go the extra mile, is very impressive. I highly recommend her to anyone who has struggled to find the right help they require.
Thank you Filippa!
